Same shift again today for Matt. News presenter Rachel: It's wind and falling leaves today in Matts ball'. I just rewound that then and made the leaves go up! Up rain is good too!
I got away with anything much in the way of rain today, but the wind came up a bit, more gusty than anything. But wind seems to be the theme of this week and I see temperatures down to 13 on Friday and Saturday!! I've got a busy weekend coming up, how will I have time for jumper shopping???
Still, Matt doesn't seem worried, lovely big smile there at the end of his first TV forecast.
Matt seems to be doing very well with the weekends off at the moment, but come Monday morning he's back to work with the rest of us. He was on Radio 4 I hear and then later on the News Channel, same shift as last week i.e. about one live broadcast and then recorded ones.
It's looking like tomorrow we'll need to hold on to our hats, and a sou' wester for some! The indian summer is over! Wind and rain just to bring us all back down to earth after the second rather nice weekend in a row!
Matt was back today but on slightly later than yesterday so 1 o clock news for him. My dvd wasn't set for that but on the bright side I did get to see him online at work!
Looking like another nice weekend for us! Yay! better make the most of it, its gettng a bit nippy around the ears in the mornings now!!
Ahh, blog page has opened properly today! I can see what I'm doing, makes a change! Anyway, another quick glimpse of Matt on screen today. I hear he was on the red button too but I didnt get chance to see that at work cos there was a lot of chatting going on first thing this morning , not work, of course! Well, sort of, but someone else's work, who has nothing to do with us but he was locked out of his office! But, anyway, I digress....again! Matt was looking lovely today in pink shirt and my favourite tie. (Not that he doesn't always look lovely, but ...) Rumours are still rife for another lovely weekend, to enjoy the changing autumn colours Matt tells us.
Lots of cloud in my world today, So I'm looking forward to a nice sunny Friday. Now the question is.....shall I walk to work??? hmmm.... think I just might!
Just a very quick blog today. Matt was on radio 4 I am told but I didn't hear that myself but I did catch him on one forecast at 8.55 on the News Channel. Now Simon was presenting the news this morning and he's the one who can often start some banter but not today
Matt was saying we've trapped a lot of cloud under this high pressure we have! Well, that wasn't very clever was it?? How on earth did we do that??? Wasn't me! Honest!! I never told it to do that!! I blame Mr G!
But apparently its going to get squeeeeezed out by the weekend so it should be brighter. Fingers crossed!!
It sure was a grey day round here today (but to be fair we can cope for a day if Matt's around to brighten things up) and lets look to the weekend as it's Friday eve tomorrow!! Nearly there!!
Matt was on the overnight shift last night on the News Channel and still foreasting us a good weekend. Miracle of miracles! Crystal clear skies apparently bringing low overnight temperatures. The crystal clear skies continued on into the day to make for rather a nice day, at long long last! And on a weekend too!! Amazing but true.
Matt had his autumnal tie on, and a very happy chappy telling us about the good weekend weather. Also we whizzed across the Atlantic to the Ryder Cup on a couple of forecasts where its sunny too.
Matt is on again tonight but on the radio this time. Keep an eye on things and hopefully keeping the weather on the straight and narrow for at least another day!
Matt was on the same shift again today. And very popular with NI and Scotland I'd imagine!! An occlusion apparently!! Not that giving it a posh name makes it any more welcome! Especially in those areas I'd imagine! Still, Matt doing the weather is always welcome. And I have to say that, on the whole, I approved of the weather today, about 80% approval anyway! There was cloudy bits and the temperatures weren't all that, but I've given up on them anyway. Just sunny will have to do at this time of year. Fingers crossed for a bit of good stuff at the weekend.
Matt was on the late morning shift on the News Channel and did the primetime 1 O clock slot. No banter, as is quite normal on the news channel unless that Simon chappie is around! Just another day with a lovely happy smiley weatherman.
Weather? what weather? Who can concentrate on the weather?
It was a pink shirt Friday today and Matt having some happy news!! This weekend might actually be dry and bright!! Imagine that!! No wellies required!! But not before some heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms today. A dry, sunny start this morning around here though, quite shocking! A colleague said she thought she'd woken up in a different place! The Southampton Boat Show started today and not too bad a day for it overall, we did have quite a heavy shower about 3 ish this afternoon but other than that it was pretty sunny!! Having checked the rainfall radar I thought it wasn't looking too hopeful for a dry walk to the car after work tonight but it all went away . So we had a happy Matt in the gardent his morning, also saying that even next week might not be too bad, some rain to come but a high pressure building perhaps!
A quick check to see if those nasty clouds are breaking away!
Can we dare to think we might see some sun this weekend?? And go out without a waterproof jacket?? Surely not!!
Today it seems Charlie had made some apple crumble and taken it into work. Declan was very reluctant to do the taste test, but over to Matt in the Blue Peter garden and he said: 'Good morning Charlie and Louise, I hope there'll be some of that apple crumble left by the way by the time I've finished my job down here in the Blue Peter garden.'
After the weather we went over to Declan who said: 'We're finding that it was doubling up very well as blue tac and was holding stuff to the wall by the phone in a most imaginative way!!! And we're eating it of course Charlie, we don't want to affend your feelings too much.'
I have a strange feeling Charlie might not actually make any more food and bring it in to work!!!!
Not much else to report, sounded like Battersea dogs home in the background of the last forecast!
I'm not going to even mention the weather today!! Yes I saw the sun, briefly! I hear I was 'unlucky' cos some rain and cloud came up from France!! Hmph! Well, I've been wearing my thermal vest to work every day this week under a jumper! So I'm all ready for winter now! There is of course no heating on at work yet cos it's still 'summer', and someone has a window open, for fresh air!!! Hopefully I will be able to wear less layers once the heating comes on and the window remains closed, fingers crossed!!!!!
It's Friday eve!! So that means Friday proper tomorrow! Yippee!!
A dry start for most this morning apparently. My micro-climate didn't agree! A very dark grey start and damp and getting damper!! Some quite heavy rain at times. My dad was plannning on working outside this morning and the last thing I said when I walked out the door was 'its not going to be much'! Doh!! And since everyone knows about my weather/weatherman interest I get the blame! Matt did say light showers for some, but I'm not too sure that really covered it! And I do understand that Matt was giving a forecast for the entire country in the space of a couple of minutes so I thought perhaps the local forecast might have picked up the local weather a little more accurately....but no!! No blue on her map either! So I guess one can see how people might think the forecast is wrong as when its raining on you you kinda feel like they should have known it was going to happen, but I looked at the rainfall radar (which apparently doesn't pick up really light rain very well) and there was virtually nothing anywhere, but as time went on it developed a little but it was literally covering such a small area that forecasting it would have been pretty tricky I would guess. The unfortunate thing about the rainfall radar is its updated retrospectively about ever half hour so if rain suddenly appears from nowhere you're not going to know to need the brolly! (although that is pretty much a foregone conclusion these days!). Matt had a shower in the garden this morning too so a brolly was needed for one forecast. A rain shower that is, he wasn't out there with soap and shampoo!! Also today, of course, was potentially the end of the world! The big bang experiment in Switzerland. Before the 8.50 forecast they were talking about the world not ending and Bill said' I didn't make plans, I didn't make plans but now I'm gonna have to, and now the weather counts, here's Matt'. Matt: 'It does, yes, and here's the weather to make your plans for the rest of today'. Not much banter at all today.
Oh my!! Yet again Matt took me by surprise! It was Alex yesterday, I (incorrectly) assumed that it would be Alex today to complete his 4 days then Carol back tomorrow, but no!!!! Never assume! I should really have learn't that by now! Soooo.... this means I missed the first 3 forecasts this morning. I did 'see' the 7.15 but didn't record, I was in shock at the time! Today they were discussing happiness, and 'happiness' being taught at school!! (OMG! Soooo many kids can't read, write and spell but I guess thats not important eh!!) Anyway.......Apparently 43 is the most unhappy age, oh dear!! It's not looking good for me! Bill to Sian: 'You're never 43, you're never 43. Sian: 'No, I was just having a laugh' Bill: 'You're 35 you know it. Matts 35....or younger probably actually, aren't you?' Matt: 'Still younger at the moment thank you Bill, yes'. For the 8.19 Bills introduction was: 'Here's something thats very very clear, it's the weather, it's not good and it's Matt'. Matt: 'You could both do the weather forecast if you want to, you've probably got it off to a T there'. Poor Matt got frozen for a bit in that forecast, don't know if that was just my TV signal or them. Matt was giving 'most' of us a dry day for tomorrow but more rain coming in on Thursday, when going back to Sian and Bill, Sian said: 'Thank you very much, yes, I think we'll just stick on Wednesday, lets just leave it there. Matt: 'Why not'. Bill: 'Whats the song? One day at a time? It's all you want really now'. And before the last forecast they were talking about 'the perfect husband', I didn't listen to the whole chat but apparently Bill was feeling a bit left out and so said 'Over to Matt for the weather'. Matt: How do I follow that eh, yes, a very good morning to you, I wish I could bring you some good news, probably wouldn't win me husband of the year, its going to rain again for many of us through today'.
And on that last note, Matt may not be 'husband' yet, but soon!! click here for more
Matt didn't need his brolly this morning, but some of us did! And it was muscle building keeping it under control too! So the news today......its gonna rain!!! a lot!!!
On the 7.45 forecast this morning Matt said he felt like the 'prophet of doom' all he's been talking about all week is rain. I remember saying on the blog last year that whenever Matt appeared he always brought the sunshine ( well, maybe not always, but often!!), but his time as a sungod must have passed!
If you want fine weather this weekend.......western parts of Scotland!!! It's a long way to go for most people I reckon.
Although a colleague at work has a better idea.....a week in Greece!! And another is going to Spain on Wednesday. No fair!!!
So, if you're not in western Scotland and off out this weekend, don't forget the wellies, umbrella and obviously the wet weather gear!! Or maybe just don't bother going out!! I don't think I shall!
Well, wet, wet, wet!! And so it goes on! Still no brolly for Matt today, but lots of blue and some green on the map.
Before the first forecast this morning Bill was looking at the newspaper and reading about the weather, Bill (sighs) 'Another battering, violent gales, heavy rain set to sweep the country'. Louise: ' Matt, can give us the weather'. Matt: 'Yes, listen to me, not the headlines, a monsoon deludge, perhaps a little bit of artist licence used there but yes there is some very wet weather to come.' Lmao, before the 6.45 forecast Bill says: 'Now he says its too early to call him Monsoon Matt, but I'm not so sure.' Matt: 'If you've ever been to India and seen a real monsoonal downpour you'll know it's not quite there, but we will see some very very wet weather indeed. I was well lucky this morning, got to work before it rained, and by about 10 it really started to brighten up, not too bad a day overall. Windy and not very warm though.
Tomorrow morning its not looking like I'll be so lucky!!! Wet weather gear, brolly, and go!!
Aww, Matt was all apologetic about his forecast at 8.15, can't be good having to repeat the same bad news every half an hour for 3 hours!!
Today there was also lots of talk about the bee population down by 30% in this country and the bad weather was being blamed for that too! Not completely, but partly.
Louise was getting a bit confused about her sunrise and sunset this morning so Matt kindly explained for her!!! The early mornings must be getting to her.
Ohh Bill was well on form today. After Matts last forecast he said to Louise: 'Did you see that big duvet of blue? All over the country. Louise: 'Duvet makes it sound nice'. Bill: 'Wet, big, wet, damp duvet'.
Don't take any notice of the papers, listen to me!!!
I'm guessing that Matt already has his wet weather gear and Breakfast brolly all lined up for tomorrow morning!
No brolly for Matt today, but a jumper was needed in the BP garden this morning.
Bill: 'Interesting headline for weather people in The Telegraph, inside: The weather fooled us admits Met Office cheif'. Sian: 'What? They got it wrong? They never get it wrong.....Matt? You never get it wrong' Matt: 'We never get it wrong, no. Just timing sometimes is a little bit out, but we try are best to get it right most of the time at least. And we'll try again today shall we'. At the end of the 6.45 forecast Bill said:'Well if that didn't make you miserable enough here's Aaron with more miserable news about the jobs market'. Flight of a lifetime up for grabs, the Red Arrows are offering up a seat for charity. Bill: Would you?' Sian: 'Well, remember Carol, I can see Matt ready for the weather but, Matt, I don't know if you saw it when Carol went up with the red arrows, and she screamed the whole way' Matt: 'Thats our Carol, yes. I was very jealous of her, I actually used to work along side the red arrows. I was at RAF Cranwell many years ago when I started in my weather career, still never had a flight with them though. So well worth bidding for that I guess.' Probably if you have a spare several thousand pounds anyway! And if you do have a spare several thousand pounds sent it here! I'll 'invest' it for you!!! At the end of the 7.15 forecast, Matt: 'And as for Friday Bill and Sian, grab your wellies, for the best of the driest weather, head for Scotland, back to you both' Sian: 'Yes, good point, we shall, thanks very much'. Not a great deal more to report, Matt did get a bit tongue-tied trying to say 'brolly', bless. He said at the end of the forecast he'd put his teeth in for tomorrow. Or otherwise talk about 'umbrella's' instead as recommended by Bill!
Poor Matt out in the rain this morning with his Breakfast brolly. As Sian said after one forecast, he's not on Breakfast that often and when he is he's stuck outside in the rain. It didn't seem to bother him too much though, he still seemed pretty happy as usual, not much fazes him! And it had pretty much stopped when I went to work this morning so I didn't need a brolly, just the wet weather jacket. And magic Matt made the rain go away at lunchtime and the sun came out and we had quite a bit of sun for the rest of the day!!! Nice one! Which cheered me up a bit cos Tuesdays are a bit depressing, its still such a long way til Friday!
I don't think think there was a lot of banter today, I have only had a quick review because I was out socializing tonight!! On a Tuesday!! Shocking I know, but there we go! So I shall have a more indepth review tomorrow eve and update anything I've missed.
Bill said: 'We're not discongooglated (that might be spelt right, or not!!!) by the weather we're just fed up' . Bill: 'And you're not the only one either, yes, what a lovely start to the morning it is here in the garden'. Sarcasm Mr Taylor!!! Bill: 'Well, these days you need flippers to get to school, don't you, eh?' Matt: 'Good Morning both of you, yes. Good morning its a pretty wet start across some parts of the country'. Bill: 'Do you know what's driving me mad Sian, do you know? do you know? (big sigh) Sian: 'I think it'll be the rain...and the brolly's still up' Matt: 'Yes, its driving you mad, you're inside Bill and Sian. It's throwing it down here at the moment'. Before the 8.15 forecast Bill said: Iwant to hear words like 'sun' and 'warmth' from (turns round to see Matt with brolly) ohh Matt'. Matt: 'There is plenty of sunshine around at the moment Bill, particularly through the Mediterranean ( mediterranean????? Thats not very close!!!) and there is a bit of sunshine here as well for some of us. But down here in the south east and parts of east Anglia its a thoroughly wet start to the day.'
Fingers crossed for Matt not needing his brolly in the morning!
'Welcome to Autumn' were Matts words this morning!!!! As far as the Met Office is concerned today is the first day of Autumn And condensation all over my car, yuk! However, I guess I shouldn't complain too much, for this morning at least, as it was all sunny going to work, and sunny intervals throughout the day really. Before Matts forecast at 6.45 Dan was on the sofa talking about Hurricane Gustav, and after Bill said he meant to ask Dan a question. He wanted Dan to give Matt marks out of 10 for his forecast!! lol! But in Dans absence Bill and Sian gave him 12 out of 10! For some reason (which I don't know) Bill was talking about gangster names this morning so Sian became Winkler Williams and Matt was Matt the Met! lol. Before the 8.55 forecast the presenters were talking to Biddy baxter of Blue Peter fame and Bill said that Matt deserves a Blue Peter badge!! Especially with him being out in the BP garden. Matt said: It's an honour to be in a garden with such history to it' . Oh dear!! I remember them digging that garden out!!! Now I feel old!!! Also he said: 'As far as the badge is concerned I don't think I'm going to get it for the forecast over the summer, it's not been best for most of us' . Too true!! I am soooo going abroad next summer! And for 2 weeks as well! If I can survive til then!!! Happy pills, light box, whatever it takes! And of course Matt on TV! I'll have to survive!
As good a start as you can get to a Monday morning!
